Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has dismissed speculation that his assistant Lee Clark is set to be appointed manager of Huddersfield Town.

Media reports had linked the former Newcastle midfielder with the vacant post at the Galpharm Stadium.

Roeder told the Norwich official website: "How these irritating stories start I do not know.

"If he was about to join any other club I would know a long time before it got into the media."

Huddersfield have been looking for a new manager since the sacking of Stan Ternent in early November.

The Terriers have had Gerry Murphy in caretaker charge since then, but he has indicated that he would not be interested in the job on a full-time basis.

Clark, 36, is the latest name to be linked with the Huddersfield job, with former Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd, Derby assistant Chris Hutchings, Rotherham boss Mark Robins and former Carlisle manager John Ward also touted as possible contenders.

Huddersfield chairman-elect Dean Hoyle told BBC Radio Leeds in the middle of November that he was in no rush to find a successor to Ternent and that it could be "one, two, three, maybe four months" before he appointed a new man in charge.

On the speculation linking Clark with the job, Hoyle told the Yorkshire Post: "I won't comment on speculation. I'm saying nothing at the moment."

Roeder, however, was quick to play down the reports and insisted Clark was staying at Carrow Road.

"This is just wild speculation and it's very unhelpful," he said.

"Reports over the weekend and on Monday morning suggesting that my assistant manager Lee Clark is about to join Huddersfield as their new manager are totally unfounded and untrue.

"Lee is fully committed to myself and Norwich City like all the rest of the backroom staff here.

"I have assembled the best backroom staff I have ever had and we all know that we need to improve results - but that will be done with the help of the players, staff and everybody at the club, and I stress everybody, pulling in the right direction."
