from a purely NCFC point of view you're right. But a truly world class player like ashton should play every world cup that they are eligible for. You never know, we might not qualify for the next one, and ashton might end up doing a 'keegan'. If you just ask yourself 'who would be the best players to play for england?' i think ashton would easily be in the top 24 players, and maybe in the first 11.

I might be willing to accept the argument that young players should wait for their full international debut, if it was immplemented across the board, but if rooney, owen, crouch and even JOHNSON get picked then why not ashton?
