It wont help ordinary people as the cut wont be passed on to the consumer in most cases

The item for ?99.99 will not be reduced by ?2.50 - the retailer will just pay the government less and make more profit. I saw some figure somewhere about how much people will spend over Christmas - something like ?500 million I think. To retailers that could mean as much as ?12.5m more profit in the next month or so.
