It was also supposed to have been a chance for Canaries boss Glenn Roeder to see Austrian international striker Roman Kienast in action during a trial - but the 24-year-old's departure after just 12 minutes of the game suggests he will need another look.
Reports yesterday claimed Kienast, who is currently on loan to Swedish side Helsingborg from Ham-Kam in Norway, was due to spend a week with the Canaries.
Kienast, who has made nine appearances for Austria and played in this summer's European Championship, is said to be valued at somewhere between ?500,000 and ?1m and that Norwich have been chasing him for some time.
"I'm hoping I'll get signed, but I'm not in a hurry," he told a Norwegian newspaper. "I'm staying here until Friday and if there will be a transfer it will happen in January."
At over six feet tall, Kienast could be the big man that Roeder may need at the turn of the new year, when Antoine Sibierski is due to return to Wigan on the completion of his loan spell, but the status of his trial is now in question.

Kienast was dropped by Austria coach Karel Bruckner for tonight's international friendly against Turkey, freeing him up for this week's trip to Norfolk, although City fans in the crowd were none the wiser, with the number nine shirt on the team sheet given as Danny Kelly, who was not even in the country.
