but when I went to sheff u march last season, I went because I like bramall lane, and so does my mate, we always go, even though we know we have a shocking record there
So I went fully aware we'd probably get rolled over
In that sense I had a good time. What I never thought I'd see, was Huckerby just stood on the half way line for 90 minutes
Cotterill had the game of his life that day, and ran down the wing all day long, because Hux was stood on the half way lane waiting for service
That really angered me. In the second half, Gibbs, who was playing well with Chedders and Cureton, linking up passing triangles to get round the height thing, was switched with Huckerby for the second half, and lasted about 10 minutes before being subbed off
So maybe that was a mistake by glen, for changing gibbs who was playing well, for huckerby, to try and bring huckerby into the game. Neither worked, both became ineffective
Both goals in the second half came from Huckerby's wing, and once 2 down he did begin to track back, but it was all too late
It was a really disappointing thing to see, and I felt for gibbs at the same time, who had what was deemed by the general reviews on here, the best game of his loan so far before being subbed
From that game onwards, there was a report that roeder had told huckerby to work harder to earn his contract
I'll get slaughtered cos I only saw one game of this happening (the other was barnsley who we were dicking left right and centre when he came on, so he got in on the act), but I wasn't impressed with him in the slightest.
He wasn't the only one, I could have punched pattison for what he did in that game, ie nothing, even the basic marking he couldn't be bothered doing
The one player I had ooodles of time for was Pearce, running after everything, acting as captain and really committed. Even with 2 minutes to go he was running after a ball for a free kick like we could have still got something out of a game where we created nothing
I just wasn't surprised when Huckerby didn't get a contract. Even more, I didn't understand the uproar about him not either, based on not tracking back (that's not one game, that's something others have commented on too, and Roeder)
He wasn't in the frame for POTS either, which surprised me as that's a fan vote, and could have been swayed, but he wasn't in the 1st three
He didn't have a great season imo, his application all season was in question, and despite what he probably could do, he wasn't doing it
All the above hit home for me when amongst the uproar of him not staying, many said he had a great game against Sheff Weds, and was like the Huckerby of old
I couldn't help wonder why we lost 4-1 when that was said, because it was like the huckerby of old, we'd have been in the game, like when he used to carry this team single handedly
The thought of huckerby at his best, imo, rules/ruled the fans, like when flem was seriously slowing down
