I agree that relegation would cost us more

but what if we give him a massive pay-off to sack him and then go down anyway because we can't attract a decent manager (either financially or because of our league position) and can't afford any players. Then we'd be even worse off.

I think things will get better on the pitch and relegation can be avoided anyway.
