Any media Quentin or Julia can dip in now and, yes every paper has a view. But the Mail kickstarted the whole process and want blood more than any other.
But where I disagree with you and so many others is on the issue of proportion. This was indeed 'crude, vulgar and unkind' - but nothing more, nothing less! Andrew Sachs complained, recived an apology and is satisfied.
This has not become a matter of 'national comment' as you so disingenuously put it, but a frothed up, rabid witch hunt which bears absolutely no relation to the reality of the situation and the genuine effect it has had on those involved.
Andrew Sachs clearly can't stand the publicity, his grand daughter is loving every minute and Angry of Tunbridge Wells can hurrumph to his heart's content about 'this kind of thing'.
It's a grim business, it really is.
