I'm probably alone in thinking this, but does anyone else feel that people are overreacting to the Hull chants? I read on the BBC site that people left the game in tears and that fans had been banned for life for joining in the chants.
I'm not saying that this sort of chant is acceptable, but just that the reaction is bordering on hysterical compared to what happens when people sing 'town full of pakis' or "dirty northern bastards".
I prefer positive chants at football matches, not ones that slag off the opposition, but there have always been exaggerated insults shouted at the other team's fans, most of them a lot less topical and a lot more vulgar than those sang by Hull fans.
Maybe i'm just out of the zeitgeist loop not living in the country and that, but i thought us Brits could take this sort of thing on the chin and see the funny side of life.
Oh well.
