Promotion showed that maybe the current board were a little out of their depth in both a fottball sense and business acumen. The prem money and parachute payments raised our turnover but was maybe not spent in the best way possible, the manager having to take some of that blame. It could be argued that the board should have actively searched for that elusive new owner back then, when our stock was high and with a little more capital we could have stayed in the prem and built ourselves into a club with a decent future. However I do understand that wasn't going to be top of their agenda.
I have a lot of respect for Delia but like huckerby I hope she gets to sell up with her head held high and I personally have a lot of respect and admiration for her. I also have a lot of admiration for Michael's smoking habit.
If some of the internet rumours are true that Peter Cullum talks are on-going, then the big question is do we keep Glenn Roeder as the man to spend the extra money and take us forward. On actual results then you would be well in your right to say no. However I believe he is building a team and if Roeder had more money we would have less loans, lets not be idiots and think Glenn's hard on for loanees is nothing to do with the budget he has. Comparing Roder to Grant is ridiculous and fair in equal measures however the good things he has done far outwieghs the bad. We do miss something, that cannot be denied, but with a few million can't that something be bought. Roeder has sorted out the backroom and playing staff, I'm convinced by that. We don't have a team of useless players just a missing ingrediant.
There is cause to look at Roeder's track record as a manger, 1st season good, 2nd season rubbish and soon after sacked. Are we seeing history strike again or have the previous clubs been too hasty? we don't actually know what happens in the long haul.
But you know, we will have better times at some point in the future and if it wasn't for periods like this, memories like the Uefa Cup run, City hall celebrations and the playoff final would seem so ordinary.
