My brother has bought and sold a few motors on eBay, and never bothered with inspections.

But then again, he only buys old bangers for a few hundred quid at most to run until they're no longer economically viable, then sells them for not very much at all.

If you were spending a significant amount, then you might want the AA thing for peace of mind. However I'm sure my brother would say "Nah, don't bother - just go by eBay feedback rating."
