I always thought the sheer illogicalness (is that a word?) of it was part of the point.

You know "Vietnam was a bit of a muddle" kind of thing.

I (thought) i got the point of the films plot, just not the point of the US armies action.
God. I'm not explaining this well at all.

Anyway, mebbe I should watch it again too.
