Whatever you do, don't use no more nails!!!!!

perhaps try a two part glue like an araldite type thing. Don't forget to rough up both surfaces with a small square of sandpaper and it will stick no problem. The only problem you have is holding it up while it sets, but thats for you to figure out. Personally I'd drill it but thats up to you!!!
