Also I reckon Drury can't be far off that, yet is roundly slated by many.

Perm or temp, the majority of players don't care about their clubs anymore, they care about themselves and their career.
So contract status is irrelevant, ALL players want to maximise their earnings, and so (should) perform to reflect that.
The exceptions are the ones on decent money happy to sit in a clubs reserves rather than go out on loan.
The ones we have are a cut above them already as they'd prefer playing to doing nothing.

If a loanee had no interest in performing at city, either to catch someones eye and earn a move, or get back into their first team, they'd just turn down the deal and stay where they are.
