I moved a lawn once. It was back in '43 when 'Topper' Harrington had returned from a

sortie over Dresden. We were living at Armathwaite Hall at the time and Topper joined us for drinks on the lawn.

The trouble was the bally lawn was gone, some crooks had taken it the night before and scarpered acrosss the fields. Billings, the gamekeeper managed to shoot one of them in the arse with a 1920's L.C. Smithfield Grade 20, gauge featherweight. The cad dropped the lawn on Giles Twiddy's top meadow.

Me, Topper and Billings spent a fine summer's evening moving the lawn back to its rightful place at Armathwaite. Caroline Tweedy-Smith had too much Bolly and got her fanny out which pleased the chaps immensely.
