Highlights from this evening
A few beers on the train from London
A few beers in Yates as the Square was closed
Seeing three pillars of WotB together enjoying a pre-match drink, Brandonio, Otto and SCC28
Giving some stick to some jobsworth at h/t who wouldn?t serve me a beer as I was in the wrong food queue
Meeting Humphrey Berney on the way home.
Helping a pissed student onto the right train at Harrow, she was very thankful.
Er that?s it.
Thoughts on the game
We weathered some early pressure for the first ten minutes or so, and then played ok until they scored. Crofty looked dangerous when he got the ball, but he didn?t get it often enough. Stacks of hoofing to Sibierski who had some nice touches and hit the post from a cross from the right. We saw very little from Fozzy in the middle, and Bertrand on the left. Southampton hit the bar and the ball went out for a throw in it was hit so hard.
Their first goal was brilliant, reminded me of the one Robbie Elliott scored against us for Bolton in the League Cup in 1998 when we lost on pens ? he cut in and curled it in to the top corner from the left wing. After the goal we were poor, and started the same in the second half, and then from nowhere OJ beat two players and should have scored with their keeper (scummer Davis) making a great save. From the corner he made another top save, and that was it. The pen was at the other end, so I can?t say too much about it.
The game was very stretched when were down to ten, and Marshall made some decent saves. We made some subs but far too late to be of any use.
Some random notes about the team
Marshall ? no chance with either goal & some good saves
Grounds ? solid, but offered little going forward
Bertrand ? should play left back and not left midfield
Crofty ? looked our most dangerous attacker. Had to help out defensively in the centre on quite a few occasions
Russell ? quiet first half, better second.
Fozzy ? didn?t do enough. Doesn?t want the ball and when he gets its just slows the play down.
OJ ? shocking hold up play, lost it countless times but was the main beneficiary of all the hoofs as he?s better at chasing the ball
Sibierski ? hit the post, but didn?t look like scoring apart from the once
Semmy ? let their player cut inside for the goal, otherwise ok
Ozomusi ? a couple of decent interceptions & clearances but he?s an accident waiting to happen. Poor distribution not helped by a midfield two that didn?t want the ball.
Stefanovic ? after he could have been red-carded at Coventry and vs Brum, I can?t help thinking that his sending off was going to happen some time soon, and tonight was the time.
