An amateur cook who challenged his friend to a chilli-eating contest died the morning after consuming his red hot culinary concoction.
33-year-old Andrew Lee, of Edlington, South Yorkshire, used a bagful of home-grown red chillis to make a super-fiery sauce after betting a mate he could make the hottest chilli. He then dared his girlfriend?s brother, Michael Chadbourne, to eat a spoonful.
According to The Daily Mail, Mr Lee then ate a plateful of his sauce with nachos and later suffered a heart attack.
After retiring to bed at 2:30am, Lee complained to his girlfriend Samantha Bailey that he had itchy skin. The next morning she found him unconscious. Paramedics later pronounced Mr Lee dead at the scene.
A postmortem failed to find a cause of death and an inquest in Doncaster was adjourned for more tests, the Daily Mirror reported. Toxicology tests are under way to see whether Mr Lee had a fatal reaction to the sauce.
