playing your best XI is a good way to win a match, but if you sign back-up players and never give them a chance in the team then a) you have no competition for places and b) your back-ups aren't match fit.

Everybody queried NW's decision to play edworthy ahead of helveg, but Eddy found his form and it got helveg playing more consistently.
