I feared that this thread would be overtaken by unpleasantness, I really did. Glad to have been proved wrong.

I don't see any point in making the paralympics such a huge TV event, for perfectly rational reasons which are not mocking of the disabled. Asking the question "what's the point" was certainly not intended (and I don't think was) mocking the disabled.
