Noted there was some talk of movies last night.
"Cloverfield" -agreed it was spoilt (for me) at the end, when you got the full, up close, all of a sudden "just like any other monster movie" glimpse of the beast in question. Lack of detail and suggestion etc had worked well up until then as regards the afore mentioned behemoth. Indeed, they began to lose it, for me, with the 'parasites' in the subway and consequent exploding stomachs, like that hasn't been done before?
At the very end of the film, when you revert to the 'old' home movie footage of matie and his girl at the fun fair, as they are sitting in the big wheel, you can see an object falling into the ocean, in the right, distant background, which is supposedly the monster "arriving" from wherever it came from.
"The Thing" - a classic! There is one, almost post-modern moment in it, near the end, when a decapitated head of one of its victims seems to grow legs and scuttle across the ceiling-at this point, one of the surviving cast members looks straight at the camera and says "...you have GOT to be f**king kidding..." which seems a nice little comment on the film itself and little remark made by the actor, aside, to the audience, and compeltely separate from the film.
