iPoddage is probably the least battery consuming. 3G and especially WiFi kills

battery life. In fact what you've said is exactly what I had heard - iPhone 3Gs are inferior to iPhone 2Gs in many ways including battery life and coverage (dropped calls, trouble registering on networks etc).
