it's not a complete loss for them even if he doesn't (same for some of the other loanees too)
for a start (this doesn't really apply to OJ that much...) it might give some of them a bit of a kick up the whatsit a sort of "if you don't continue to develop look at the level you'll end up playing, or worse as if you're not concidered good enough by a mid-table Championship side you're certainly not going to be good enough for the Prem
also for those like Grounds that have come through their club's academy it gives them a chance to learn from different coaches and methods, possibly saving them from stagnating by always being subjected to the same thing all the time
for OJ, i suppose one advantage is we take the time to get him 'culturally' acclimatised to England and English football...
