His pace proved the difference as he beat a dithering Thomas Helveg to Hasan Salihamidzic's through-ball and laid back a pass to where Owen Hargreaves, who had begun the move inside his own half, was arriving on the edge of the area in support to curl a right-footed shot beyond the reach of Kasey Keller into the far corner.

Helveg had been given a torrid time by Santa Cruz and was stretched so far that his groin simply couldn't cope and he was replaced by Ze Antonio.
