If you're a business, you just pay corporation tax on your overall profits, presumably?

Rather than capital gains tax. So to the extent that the fee received last year boosted their profits, they would have paid tax on that. Paying for him this year means lower profits and less tax.

But nothing special because it happens to be the same player. I'd have thought.
