I could never see why the obviously preposterous claims of charitable trust status were made, so I wouldn't trust the individuals that made them as far as I could throw them.

If people wish to give money to a PLC with a turnover of millions that's fine and their own business - poking my nose in my suggestion would be to do it via FONCY.
