Lol. Essentially people are paying others to play certain PC games for them.

So they can then look like uber geeks in the game world.

Very odd.
Games I play myself like WoW, but I've always considered the point of these games to be to play your way through the content.
Can't see the point of getting someone else to get you there, severely limits what you get to experience of a game that you pay ?30 quid for initially, then another ?7/8 a month.
