This site requires hardly any maintenance

Its only because the site is busy it requires a decent server during peak periods.

Luckily I've managed to blag free hosting from the company I work for.

phpBB of other alternatives would be much easier to manage. They allow all features to be customised and have good management features.

I don't actually have any experience using them but it would be an easier option than writing your own and better than a hosted one.
