Actually I think people excuse it because they're probably

one of the top half dozen teams in the premiership, and are bringing in some of the very best players on the planet at the moment.

We#'e rebuilding from a squad that nearly got relegated to the third tier last season. That will take time, and we're surely not there yet (the team that faced Spurs in particular).

And yet people appear to be taking pre-season as a sign that we need to change tack already.
