That's a difficult one.

1. Venice (that choice was easy)
2. Barcelona
3. Florence

If Montmartre was a city it would get up there, but unfortunately I have to factor in the rest of Paris.

Dubrovnik was also in with a shout but the modern part lets it down.

Budapest was a favourite of mine for years but it seems not to have moved on at all. My favourite British city is Edinburgh.

Salzburg gets in top 5 I think. Depending on which day you ask me. Rome too.

Berlin is fascinating but I wouldn't want to live there simply because of the way it is sprawled rather than having a "continental"-style centre of town. Standard of living, probably Oslo.

Prague, Ljubljana, Copenhagen, Aachen, Utrecht, Maastricht, Gent, Nice, Vienna, etc - all worth a look.
