but what is a player worth?

what someone will pay for him that matches a vaulation by the seller. When the seller starts getting silly - as with Mrs Pesky - then there is no real worth at all because no one is going to buy so we end up with what happened with Taylor. We didn't match the perceived valuation, but then this was bastardised by silliness so the real worth didn't emerge. I know I'm being simplistic, but transfer fees are so random, that I don't think clubs actually get more for asking for more just because the club seems wealthy.
