It made no sense

to spend, by Doncaster's calculation, ?1 miillion on a player (Hughes) who couldn't play in the same side as one we had acquired a month earlier (Jarrett). But we did it anyway.
It made no sense to spend the entire transfer budget on a striker (Earnshaw) who needed a big man to play off, leaving us without the money to sign the big man. But we did it anyway.
When did sense start coming into it?
