Similar to Java ?

Well I would say the architecture is similar to J2EE and that the .NET languages are object oriented so in that way they are similar to Java. I also think the CLR (runtime environment) is similar to (but not the same as) the Virtual Machine.

However, .NET provides several different languages for use with it. I would stick with C# if I were you - a more modern C-variant than the over-complex C++.

VB.NET is a waste of space and is only there in my opinion to make VB developers think they can migrate - in reality it's a totally different language to VB.

ASPX is simply the new way of building web applications and basically combines server and client-side controls and web run-time objects with embedded .NET languages. Still a bit s**te, but certainly an improvement on ASP.

Apart from that, read a book or msdn.microsoft.com
