...to our squad, even if Francis goes this evening. I just can't help but feel that even if he goes and frees up 1.5m, and even if we already have 1-2m in the kitty, Worthy will not be doing any deals.
He often goes on about not being under pressure from other clubs, having patience, and waiting for a player that will "add quality to what we've already got" - now surely being the ruthless business that we are we would not sit and identify targets that we couldn't afford. So why has nothing else been done in order to bolster the midfield that is so clearly going to be weakened if Francis leaves?
Is it possible that despite worthy's transfer nouse and abilities that ultimately we can have as many Thornes, MLJ's, Colins, Jarrets etc as we like, but if we don't have that player that will change a game as it seems Francis and Safri (can never be relied on to be injury free) can, then we will always struggle.
Finally, a very highly debated point is Worthy's insistance on relating the seasons position whether it be good or bad to the fact that he's spent no money. How often have we heard: "considering we spent nothing compared to A, B and C in pre-season, we did well to finish just outside top two etc". Does worthy use his lack of spending big money as an excuse for the season going wrong?
Personally, the last point is probably bollocks, afterall he does gain bonuses like the players for winning and therefore is in his best interests to do so.
