Show me a businessman anywhere prepared to invest ?20m of his own money with no strings attached. Yet Cullum's words in the EDP are friendly and diplomatic, and he's quite clear about allowing Delia to remain the public face of the club. Frankly, if we've completely ignored him since Xmas, he'd have a right to be screaming blue murder instead of being so conciliatory - but I don't think the club have left him much choice.
Many of us have long suspected that the club has not been doing everything they can to attract new investment - or at least, that the conditions they've attached to anyone looking to put money in has made it almost impossible. A quick look at our current first team squad, and where we finished last season, tells you all you need to know about the board's recent overseeing of the club: this is a tough world now, and without real investment, not only will we not progress, but we could well end up as the best run, most admired, community oriented club... in League One.
Tough s**t if it creates a boardroom war. It could have been prevented had Smith and Jones been more amenable to the offer last October: instead, they took a massive risk with the club's future. Time to get real, Jayson - and if a gifthorse is now looked stonily in the mouth, there'll be trouble ahead, and quite justifiably so too.
