Because that shows that we aren't spending v much money (so no big money injection from the "very very ambitious" Turners), and that means that the players we get will probably not have much "wow" factor which exacerbates Tricky's good point about hit and miss. Shopping in the bargain bin is always much more hit and miss than spending proper money is, though of course I accept that spending more does not mean that you wil inevitably get better players - eg Fred Eastwood
