Ameobi move under threat

Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi's proposed move to Ipswich Town could fall through, which would open the door again for Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder to revive his interest in the 26-year-old forward.

It is understood the Suffolk club is ready to look elsewhere after waiting in vain for an answer over the £3.5million package they have agreed with the Magpies.

Ameobi has already rejected a £4million move to promoted Stoke, where he spent part of last season on loan.

Canaries boss Glenn Roeder, who worked with the Nigeria-born player during his time at St James' Park, is a big admirer, but may be putting all his eggs in one basket at upwards of £2m for one player, plus salary.
