For once I agree with Pants

Ref has made a bad decision and they are frantically scanning the rule-book to try and justify it.

The player off the pitch was injured and definitely not interfering with play. They are citing a rule intended to prevent players from deliberately stepping off the pitch to justify the decision. May be technically correct but 9 times out of 10 that goal would be disallowed. In any event I refuse to believe that the ref and linesman at that split second thought to themselves well he's off the pitch but rule 10.7 says in those circumstances he still counts as offside.
