Main reason, as far as I can see, is that they're not aiming their football coveraeg at people like us - ie football fans.
They're always trying to satisfy / attract non-football fans. So their coverage is a mixture of familiar, housewife-friendly pundits and comfortable cliches that won't challenge anyone.
Can't blame them really - they only have two channels and they must figure there's loans of Eastenders fans they've got to keep happy. But it#s f*cking irritating if you've watching more than three games of football in your life.
