Chelts, I do quite a bit of sea fishing in Scotland and want to talk to a diver about

wreck fishing

There are loads of wrecks in the Sound of Mull which are great for fishing

Trouble is, there are also loads of divers in the Sound of Mull! I imagine that it wouldn't be very popular with divers for me to start chucking large hooks down near the wreck while they're there, so if I arrive at a wreck and find there's a dive boat there, I ask them when they'll be finished and either wait or push off to another place if they're going to be too long.

It's generally no problem because I can fish on a strong tide where they can't dive. But the other day a dive boat turned up when we were already over the wreck and fishing (and had been for about 15 mins). They got very gobby and aggressive and insisted that we move. I didn't, on the basis that I had just as much right to enjoy the wreck in my own way as they in theirs. It all got a bit tense and since we weren't catching I decided to move on.

Are you aware of any conventions/rules of the road between divers and fishermen? I play first come first served but this lot didn't.

Oh, and I always feel really guilty when I lose hooked stuff on a wreck (which does happen), imagining some poor bugger getting impaled. Not much I can do about it but how much of a pain is it when wreck diving?
