Well it depends whether or not you take the view that

everything was Worthington's fault, then everything was Grant's fault. And that if it goes wrong next season then it will all be Roeder's fault. I don't.

If another dreadful season follows on from the four dreadful seasons that we have just endured then perhaps the penny might drop that something more fundamental is amiss.

Take the finances: for 2 years we received the £7 million parachute payments. Last year we had two big sales and a big loan that taken together totalled the £7 million. I don't us getting that much in this year. And anyway even with those big inflows we were scrapping around in the bargain basement - the reason Grant bought a load of cheap rubbish, and Roeder has only managed one permanent signing are the same. There isn't enough cash.

Then there's the players we do sign - how do we assess their fitness? Chadwick has told Archant that since his injuries he can't run as fast as he could, oh and his shoulder starting giving him real trouble at Stoke. What the f**k did we think would happen? That's not the manager's fault. Or Lappin? He is just too slow - did anyone have the wits to time him running 30 yards? Or Thorne. If that bloke was fit enough for Championship football on the day he took his medical then it was the only day during his stay that he was.

But actually the penny has dropped with Roeder. One of things I've noticed for years is that we don't appear as fit as our opponents. The only surprise to me is that Carolan didn't go years ago.

Or the Academy. Which has to produce players for the first team. Simply has to. We must fast be reaching the point where the Sammy Morgan effect has unwound. Time to pull the plug?
