I don't think the media helped

they're pouncing on anything transfer-related at the moment, including flights of fantasy on boards like this - so even if Gunny just said something in passing it would have turned into major news story. I know this was a bit more definitive - but perhaps not as big as it seemed - or as a big a subsequent dispute.
