It's a good point BUT

back then, we didn't realise the implications of such a carbon based economy. Back then, the fuel wouldn't run out, we didn't have global warming in the news etc so there didn't seem to be a problem.

These days, everyone knows the s**t we're in. To say we did it 50 years ago so China and India should be allowed to do so now probably isn't the perfect solution!

Only a thought, mind... :-)
