it would be interesting to know how things should have been done differently.
If you are suggesting that we should not have taken on the new Stand then we probably wouldn't have gone ahead with the Locked Box deal.
Then we wouldn't have cleared the 6 million debt.
Then we couldn't have afforded Huckerby / Crouch / Harper
Then we wouldn't have got promoted.
And without promotion (and the new stand) we would still have been in the Champions**t but with gate-income down by about 5,000 per match (2 million quid less income per season).
You are right that the club made a lot of noise about how 'good' promotion would be for us, and you are probably right that paying some more of the debt would have been nice.
BUT do we know that the Agreement allows overpayments to be made?
And would you really have wanted to do a Watford or Derby?
Let it be recorded that Watford, who you might expect to be minted, had a 4 million quid operating loss in the June to Dec 07 trading period. And that their net debt, as of Jan 1 2008, is still over 5 million.
I really can't see how the joy of 03/04 (and parts of 04/05) would have been possible without the Locked Box deal and all that followed it.
