Hucks protests would be 'sad thing to do'

Organisers of Sunday's tribute to Norwich City's greatest players say any demonstrations over the axing of Darren Huckerby would be inappropriate and out of place.
A group of supporters claim they are planning to use the Greatest Ever event at Carrow Road to air their protests to the board over Huckerby's departure last week.
City's top brass are expected to be at Carrow Road for Sunday's event and will clearly be the target for demonstrators - although organiser Paul Nicholson was adamant any action would be unfair on the legendary players who will be on show, including Huckerby.
"It is a bit of a sad thing to do," said Nicholson, editorial director of Greatest Ever, who has added a special Huckerby tribute to the schedule in the light of Glenn Roeder's decision last week not to offer the player a new contract after four and a half years' service.
"This has been in the planning for two years, well before the decision was made on Darren. It is an a-political event, a celebration of legends and I feel it would be inappropriate to make it anything different. Darren has always been coming to the event and in the light of the news that he will be leaving Carrow Road for pastures new, we felt it was appropriate to show special recognition to a player who has had a huge impact on the club. It is very appropriate that he is honoured in the company of all the former Norwich playing legends who are returning for the event. This will be a unique occasion and it is very unlikely that it will be possible to get all these former players together at the same time again."
Huckerby (right) added: "I am really looking forward to the Greatest Ever event. Norwich is a great club and has been a great club for me. The list of former players coming back to the club is a Who's Who of Norwich football and it is an honour to be included on the list and recognised for my career here. Of course it will be an emotional day for all of us who have been nominated, but it will be a lot of fun as well. I'm sure the people who turn up will enjoy the day, when else are you going to see all these guys again in the same place? It will be a good chance for all the ex-players to get together and chat about their memories."
