How could anyone ever regard Earnie as a bad signing?

Genuinely baffled. Look at the stats. He's a goal-scorer - he was bought to score goals - he scored goals. Shedloads of goals. Simple as that.

You could argue that he was the WRONG signing - that instead of one Earnie we should have bought eg two quality midfielders. (That was never going to happen - Worthy had backed himself into a corner with his stupid "wealth of midfielders" comment, and when Ashton went he needed to buy a goal scorer to placate the crowd.) But that's not Earnie's fault.
