Disappointing but not a surprise

I am disappointed that we haven't given Hucks another year. I accept that given the standard of players generally at the club for a majority of last season he has been a luxury at times with his general reluctance to track back, tackle etc. but that is not his strength and he can often prove more of a hinderance than a help in defence. However. having secured another season in the Championship surely would this not be the ideal time to build a squad of players that allows you to accomodate a player of Hucks ability.

However, I am not totally surprised by the decision and whilst the final decision will have been taken by Roeder I strongly believe that the board have had a major influence in the decision. It is clear that they were not at all happy with Hucks comments after the shocking performance by the team at Wolves. Whilst as supporters we could sympathise with what he said unfortunately those comments should not be made publicly by players and I think this has been a major factor in the decision.

Unfortunately, Hucks suffered with an injury early in the season but apart from the past few games he has been hugely inconsistent this season and at times seemed to be disinterested (particularly away from Carrow Road). Admittedly some of those performances were under Grant but anyone remembering his performance at Bury in the FA Cup replay will appreciate that that type of performance is remembered by the management team when these decisions are made.

It is a particularly sad day to see Hucks leave the club without the fans being able to offer him the send off he deserves for his 5 years service to the club.

The important thing now is to ensure that having parted company with Hucks that we bring in quality additions to the squad. Ideally we could do with getting Ched and Ryan for at least another season and need another centre forward to replace the legend that is Dion. We need a creative midfielder as whilst Fotheringham has his good days he too frequently disappears when things are not going to plan (e.g. Coventry and Leicester). Finally we need 2 decent central defenders as an absolute minimum requirement.

Whilst the announcement today is disappointing let's hope that by the start of pre-season we have a squad ready and able to do this club justice.
