What the club COULD do is what Feyenoord did for Giovanni van Bronckhorst...

I remember going to a pre-season friendly after he'd been sold to Arsenal, and Giovanni was flown into the centre circle by helicopter and did a lap of the ground to receive applause and thanks from the Feyenoord fans who had similarly been robbed of a chance to say goodbye.

Just a thought. The ROFLCopter would be optional.
