Just a guess but were Hucks + Agent given a deadline

to sign at a realistic wage, given his obviously reduced powers over the last 2 seasons ? If so, the likely day of reckoning would be today, the day after the bank hols.
If that is not the case, he is far from the first city 'legend' to be shown the door. Malky and Iwan spring to mind. There comes a time when a commercial and footballing decision has to be made.
