Needed to be backed up with a few pantsbot links to humiliate people though.
This is how you do it:-
Ashton's signing for spurs you buffoon, which was all I ever said was happening (ie he was bound to sign for a bigger club than us). And I'm quite looking forward to reading your grudging acknowledgement that I was Right and you were Wrong.
the only puzzle is why people on here started talking about it. He's probably the first fizzy league player in the queue for the premiership, and was never about to jump ship in jan to a club expected to shortly leave it.

What a doom and gloom merchant. FFS. Bellamy went to Coventry, didn't he? Don't write Ashton off yet. It all depends who else comes in for him (probably not many except the promoted clubs), what Crewe ask, how he plays in December, how much he wants to leave, how we're placed in early Jan relative to the other contenders, whether we'd agree a relegation clause in his contract ...
Lots of possibilities. Stop being so gloomy.

I'm not being gloomy, just demonstrating a little realism
There's plenty of strikers out there we could realistically aim at who could do a job. (I think we've been a little unlucky that both Macken and Johannson have finally broken into their first teams, for example, but we realistically had a chance of getting either of them.)
But Ashton happen to be one that was, is and will be out of our league. There probably isn't another nationwide striker who's as highly rated as him. Not one. Therefore he will not go to a relegation-favourite who don't have much cash to spend.
