YOu can invite freinds or have clans, or you can just randomly connect, either worldwide or continentaly.

I've only done it Worldwide, mostly you end up against fellow Brits, Froggies or Chermans, but there's been the odd US or Japan racer thrown in and no matter what there's no lag, ever (so far), was playing from about 5pm til last night, it never dropped out, lagged or anything, just the occaisional drawn out loading screen, no biggie really.
