Reply from football league

For those of you interested - I emailed the football league the other day, asking for confirmation that from now on, we can choose six loanees rather than five for our match squad. Given that it looks clear that Wednesday are only going to be fined a paltry amount for cheating like this, and will keep the point they gained.

Reply I received is below.

"We are in receipt of your email and would advise that regulations provide that no more than five loan players shall be named in a club's 16 man matchday squad.

The matter of Sheffield United naming six loan players in their 16 man matchday squad for the league game v Stoke City will be considered by the Board in due course. It is not however possible to speculate on the decision of the Board. To clarify, Sheffield Wednesday played four loan players, Stoke City five loan players.

Thank you for contacting The Football League.

Disappointing that they seem to have got their Sheffield clubs confused. (Wonder if United will have to pay the fine?) But the last sentence is the key - they clearly are looking for reasons not to penalise Wednesday.

Not sure if I can be arsed to reply or not. I think that last sentence makes me want to....
